Busy LADY…

Updated: Aug 11

Some people call it multitasking, I call it feeding my soul. She called me a busy lady because I was in baton twirling, ice skating club, pop warner cheerleading, USA gymnastics team, junior softball and girl scouts. I was nine. I had to ask my mom why Mrs. G always called me a busy lady when I popped by for a swim.

My friend Molly had the only house in the neighborhood with an in-ground pool and it was fancy, bright blue like the ocean, refreshing and surrounded by rose bushes and a very green garden. I thought they were rich but now I know I was. My parents gave me every opportunity to try new things, build confidence and learn how to compete. Mo‘s parents put in a pool so Mo and her siblings would stay close to home all summer and not try new things. What if she was good at something. This might take her away from her chores and the family would suffer. My parents wanted me to enjoy being young and the chores came last. Mrs. G. was right. I was a busy lady and I still am. Fast forward I’ve always worked many jobs, including coaching gymnastics and baton twirling nights and weekends year after year. Next I got my real estate license and embarked on that part time gig. I’m still a realtor and I flip houses in my spare time. As I worked on my full time career ambitions, I called my part time jobs my SMART time jobs. The money I earned and the enjoyment I had in these life skill building positions was a smart use of my time but also made me rich in spirit! Take it from a couple of busy ladies, keep your day job while you kick your dreams across the sky!

Cheers, Lisa and Janine
